Two-tier
A NOC Engineer is diagnosing a two-tier campus in which Core-1 combines distribution and core functions. Core-1 is a Layer 3-capable Cisco Catalyst switch running IOS XE 17.x, with ip routing enabled. A management server on VLAN 20 uses 10.16.20.50/24 and Core-1's operational VLAN 20 gateway. It cannot reach an access switch's management address 10.16.112.100/24 on VLAN 112.
Core-1 is the only router between those VLANs. The access switch uses 10.16.112.1 as its gateway. VLAN 112 exists and is active; its member uplink is up and forwarding in spanning tree, participates in SVI autostate, and has no access policy blocking the test. Core-1 has no alternative route to 10.16.112.0/24. Illustrative evidence:
Core-1# show ip route 10.16.112.100
% Network not in table
Core-1# show running-config interface Vlan112
interface Vlan112
ip address 10.16.112.1 255.255.255.0
shutdown
