About this video

A slow Snowflake query does not automatically mean you need a larger virtual warehouse. In this video, we break down how Snowflake virtual warehouses work and how to make the right decision between sizing up, scaling out, suspending idle compute, and controlling credit consumption for the SnowPro Core COF-C03 exam. We’ll cover: What Snowflake virtual warehouses actually provide Active warehouse session requirements Warehouse USAGE privileges Warehouse sizing and resizing Scale up vs. scale out Multi-cluster warehouses Query concurrency and queueing Memory pressure and disk spilling Standard vs. Economy scaling policies Auto-Suspend and Auto-Resume Local warehouse cache considerations Resource Monitors Query tags and cost attribution Query History and Query Profile Common COF-C03 warehouse mistakes One of the most important distinctions is knowing which control matches the actual bottleneck. Scaling up gives a single cluster more compute and memory, which can help resource-intensive queries and memory pressure. Scaling out adds clusters to handle concurrency and queueing. These are different problems and require different responses. We’ll also look at situations where changing the warehouse may not be the correct solution at all. Poor partition pruning, transaction locks, access policies, or other query conditions should be investigated before increasing compute. For COF-C03, focus on the evidence. Identify the symptom, inspect Query History and Query Profile, isolate the cause, and then choose the appropriate warehouse configuration. That decision-making process is more important than simply memorizing warehouse settings. #Snowflake #COFC03 #SnowProCore
